Enjoy These Time-Honored Espresso Recipes
The menu at a coffee shop can be pretty confusing. That’s because espresso is such a versatile beverage and our specialty coffee is simply too good to have just one way. Here’s a look at the most common coffee drinks you can make with Gaviña espresso coffee beans.

Café Latte
A basic café latte is a single or double shot of espresso with steamed milk topped with a thin layer of micro-foamed steamed milk. Syrups, sauces, powders or other flavorings may be added for flavored lattes. This beverage is:

  • Served in sizes ranging from 8 – 16 oz. (250 – 500 ml.)
  • In general, 1 – 2 shots per 8 oz. (250 ml.) of beverage
  • Most of the beverage is steamed milk
  • Topped with micro-foamed milk

Cappuccino
It is often said that this beverage was named after the brown robes of Italy’s Capuchin monks. Although there are many variations, popular definitions state that a cappuccino is a layered espresso-based beverage made with approximately 1/3 espresso, topped with 1/3 steamed milk that is “capped” with 1/3 frothed milk. For a dry cappuccino, use foam from frothed milk only. A cappuccino is:

  • Served in 5 – 6 oz. (150 – 175 ml) size
  • 1 shot of espresso
  • Equal parts steamed and micro-formed milk, poured together

Espresso Macchiato
“Marked” in Italian, this term refers to shot of espresso marked with a teaspoon or dollop of milk froth.

  • Serving size is 2-3oz (50-100ml)
  • 1-2 shots of espresso
  • Topped with a small amount of textured milk or foam only

Café Mocha
This is a single or double shot of espresso mixed to preferred taste with chocolate syrup or powder and steamed milk. It is often served with micro-foam and/or whipped cream as a garnish. Café mocha is:

  • Served in sizes ranging from 8 – 16 oz. (250 – 500 ml.)
  • In general 1 – 2 shots per 8 oz. (250 ml.) of beverage
  • Combine espresso, milk and chocolate
  • Most of the beverage is steamed milk
  • Topped with micro-foam and/or whipped cream

Americano
This term refers to an espresso that’s “pulled long” to make a less strong, “American-style” beverage.

  • Served in sizes ranging from 8-16oz.
  • 2-3 shots per 8oz of beverage
  • Fill cup ¾ full with hot water
  • Top with espresso shots to preserve the crema
